The Bloody Mary is a timeless cocktail with a multitude of variations and additions, making it incredibly versatile. Turn yours into a full meal by adding some tasty food pairings—pretty much if it fits on a stick, it belongs in your drink!
This recipe provides just the right amount of heat from paprika and pepper, but for those who crave an extra kick, add a dash or two of your favourite hot sauce. Swap the vodka for tequila, and lemon for lime and you have yourself a zesty Bloody Maria or omit the alcohol entirely for a fun Virgin Mary Mocktail! Recipe for 500ml (16 oz) Glass:
- Ice
- Tomato Juice (V8 Vegetable Juice): 300ml (10 oz)
- Lemon Juice: 15ml (0.5 oz)
- Worcestershire Sauce: 15ml (0.5 oz)
- Vodka: 45ml (1.5 oz)
- Smoked Paprika or Old Bay Seasoning: ¼ tsp
- Fantasea-salt: ¼ tsp
- Ground Black Pepper: Large pinch
- Celery Salt: ¼ tsp
- Rim Mix (Smoked Paprika/Old Bay, Fantasea-salt, Celery Salt)
- Celery Stalk: 1
- Lemon Wedge: 1
Common additions include horseradish, fresh lime, pickle juice, or even a splash of olive juice. Fresh herbs are fantastic too! For measurements for a 350ml (12 oz) glass, see the bottom of the page.
Prepare and Rim the Glass:
- In a small bowl, mix a little smoked paprika or Old Bay seasoning, Fantasea-salt, and celery salt. Place the mix onto a side plate.
- Take a lemon wedge and run it around the rim of the glass, then dip the rim into the mix.
- Add plenty of ice and all your ingredients to a jug, shaker, or stirring glass and mix well.
- Fill a tall glass with fresh ice, being careful not to touch the rim.
- Strain the cocktail mixture into the glass.
- Garnish with a celery stalk and a fresh lemon wedge.
